Steps

  1. 1

Wash the vegetables. Trim the ends from the green beans and cut them into 2.5–3 cm pieces.

  2. 2

Scrape or peel the carrot, halve it lengthwise, and slice it into pieces about 0.5 cm thick.

  3. 3

Halve the red pepper and cut it into strips about 1 cm wide.

  4. 4

Halve the leek lengthwise. Cut about three-quarters into 2 cm half-rings; cut the remaining piece into 2 mm half-rings for garnish.

  5. 5

Put the prepared vegetables in the slow cooker.

  6. 6

Arrange the chicken pieces on top of the vegetables.

  7. 7

Combine the ginger paste, onion powder, ground coriander, ground cumin, sambal oelek, and garlic powder with the ketjap to make a paste.

  8. 8

Pour the spice paste over the chicken and vegetables.

  9. 9

Cover and cook in the slow cooker for 4½ hours on low or 2½ hours on high.

  10. 10

If desired, season with salt and pepper to taste.

  11. 11

Cook the bami noodles separately according to the package directions. Rinse them.

  12. 12

Mix the noodles into the slow-cooker contents.

  13. 13

Serve with seroendeng, pickled cucumber, and kroepoek.

Notes

The author notes that slow-cooker dishes may need one-third to one-half more seasoning than stovetop versions, and adds an extra spice paste accordingly. The noodle packet size and quantities for the serving accompaniments are not specified.
