Ingredients
- 400 g ground beef (8–12% fat)
- oil (For frying)
- 1 onion (Finely chopped)
- 2 carrots (Grated or very finely chopped)
- 1 celery stalk (Finely chopped)
- 2 garlic cloves (Finely chopped)
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 beef bouillon cubes (Dissolved in the water)
- 5 dl water (Approximately; used to dissolve the bouillon cubes)
- 1.5 tsp soy sauce (Source specifies 1–2 tsp)
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (English sauce)
- gravy thickener (Optional, as needed)
- cream (A small splash)
- salt (To taste)
- black pepper (To taste)
- gravy browning (Adjust the color as needed)
- mashed potatoes (For serving)
Steps
- 1
Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat until well heated.
- 2
Add the ground beef and break it up in the pot. Brown it hard until it develops a good seared crust.
- 3
Add the chopped onion, carrots, celery, and garlic. Cook everything together until the vegetables soften and collapse.
- 4
Sprinkle the flour over the beef and vegetables, stir it in thoroughly, and cook it for a couple of minutes.
- 5
Pour in all of the bouillon, dissolved in approximately 5 dl water, at once. Stir well so the flour dissolves and the gravy begins to thicken.
- 6
Bring the mixture to a simmer, cover the pot, and simmer for 20 minutes.
- 7
Remove the lid and continue cooking for 10 minutes so the gravy thickens and the flavor deepens.
- 8
Season with the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, a small splash of cream, salt, and pepper.
- 9
Add gravy browning to adjust the color. If needed, adjust the consistency with a little gravy thickener.
- 10
Let the millionbøf simmer for a further 3–4 minutes after the final additions.
- 11
Serve with mashed potatoes.
Notes
The source gives no exact amount for the frying oil, cream, gravy thickener, gravy browning, salt, pepper, or mashed potatoes. The transcript confirms the flour is briefly fried off and that the finished dish simmers for an additional 3–4 minutes after seasoning.
