Ingredients

  • 2.5 cup warm water (Warm but not too hot to touch)
  • 2 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 0.5 cup butter (Melted; additional butter may be served with the warm rolls)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 7 cup all-purpose flour
  • oil (For greasing the bowl)
  • butter (For serving; regular butter or honey butter may be used)

Steps

  1. 1

Add the warm water and active dry yeast to a large mixing bowl. Let the mixture stand for a few minutes—about 1 to 2 minutes according to the video—until the yeast begins to foam. The water should be warm but not hot enough to be uncomfortable to touch, since excessive heat can kill the yeast. If the yeast does not foam, use fresh yeast.

  2. 2

Add the melted butter, salt, granulated sugar, egg, and all-purpose flour to the activated yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

Knead the dough for about 10 minutes, either in a mixer or by hand, until it is smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

Lightly oil a bowl. Place the kneaded dough in the bowl and turn it over once so the surface is lightly coated with oil.

  5. 5

Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise for about 40 to 45 minutes, until it has approximately doubled in size.

  6. 6

Punch down the risen dough to release the air.

  7. 7

Divide the dough into portions and shape them into rolls. For evenly sized rolls, weigh portions of approximately 50 to 55 grams each. Tuck the edges of each portion into the center, pinch the bottom closed, and gently roll or press the dough between your thumb and first finger to create a smooth surface.

  8. 8

Arrange the shaped rolls on a baking sheet. Cover them and let them rise for about 30 minutes, until they have grown slightly.

  9. 9

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  10. 10

Bake the rolls at 350°F (175°C) for 22 to 25 minutes, or until the tops are beautifully golden brown. The video notes that 22 minutes produced golden-brown rolls.

  11. 11

Serve the rolls warm with regular butter or honey butter, if desired.

Notes

The written description says the first rise is about 40 minutes, while the video says about 45 minutes; use the rise-until-doubled cue. The source does not specify the number of rolls or the baking-sheet arrangement. The creator recommends kneading by hand if a mixer is unavailable.
