Ingredients

  • 330 g ripe bananas, peeled and mashed (Ripe; peeled and mashed)
  • 8 tbsp unsalted butter (Melted before browning)
  • 1 egg (Room temperature)
  • 0.333 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla bean paste
  • 0.333 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt (Use sour cream or Greek yogurt)
  • 190 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • salt (Pinch)
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (Plus more for sprinkling on top, if desired)

Steps

  1. 1

Add the butter to a light-colored saucepan over medium heat and melt it completely. The butter will foam and bubble; stir constantly.

  2. 2

Continue cooking and stirring until the butter turns deep golden amber and smells nutty. Remove it from the heat immediately.

  3. 3

Pour the browned butter into a bowl, scraping all of the browned bits from the saucepan into the bowl. Let it cool for 5–10 minutes before using.

  4. 4

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.

  5. 5

In a large mixing bowl, add the mashed bananas and cooled browned butter. Whisk thoroughly.

  6. 6

Add the light brown sugar and granulated sugar. Mix for 1–2 minutes, until well combined.

  7. 7

Crack in the egg and whisk until combined.

  8. 8

Add the sour cream or Greek yogurt and the vanilla bean paste. Mix for 1–2 minutes, until everything is well combined.

  9. 9

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking soda.

  10. 10

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet batter. Add the chocolate chips and mix only until just combined; do not overmix.

  11. 11

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top if desired.

  12. 12

Bake for 55–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the loaf comes out clean.

  13. 13

Let the banana bread cool completely before cutting and serving.

Notes

The source specifies a 9×5-inch loaf pan and 350°F oven. The amount of optional topping chocolate chips is not specified.
