Ingredients

  • 1 lb ribeye steak (thinly sliced)
  • 12 pretzel slider buns
  • 8 oz provolone cheese (sliced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (diced)
  • 1 yellow onion (diced)
  • 2 tbsp butter (for sautéing and brushing buns)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • 1.5 cup sharp cheddar cheese (shredded, for cheese whiz)
  • 0.5 cup evaporated milk (for cheese whiz)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (for cheese whiz)

Steps

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the diced onions and green peppers, sautéing until softened and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

  3. 3

In the same skillet, add the thinly sliced ribeye. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook until browned and fully cooked through. Stir the sautéed vegetables back into the meat.

  4. 4

Prepare the homemade cheese whiz by combining the shredded cheddar, evaporated milk, and cornstarch in a small saucepan over low heat. Whisk constantly until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth and thickened.

  5. 5

Slice the pack of pretzel slider buns in half horizontally, keeping the individual rolls connected. Place the bottom half in a baking dish.

  6. 6

Layer the ribeye and vegetable mixture evenly over the bottom buns.

  7. 7

Pour the homemade cheese whiz over the meat mixture, then top with a layer of provolone cheese slices.

  8. 8

Place the top half of the pretzel buns over the cheese. Brush the tops with the remaining melted butter.

  9. 9

Cover the dish with foil and bake for 10 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the buns are toasted.

  10. 10

Slice into individual sliders and serve immediately.

Notes

For the best results, freeze the ribeye for 30 minutes before slicing to get paper-thin pieces. You can substitute the pretzel buns with brioche or Hawaiian rolls if preferred.
