Ingredients

  • 8 oz Cream cheese (softened)
  • 0.25 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 2 Apples (finely diced)
  • 0.25 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon (for apple pie filling)
  • 2 tbsp Water
  • 0.25 cup Sugar (for cinnamon sugar)
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon (for cinnamon sugar)
  • 25 Wonton wrappers
  • Water (for sealing)
  • 2 cups Vegetable or canola oil (for frying)
  • Caramel sauce (for serving, optional)

Steps

  1. 1

In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Beat with a hand mixer on medium speed until smooth, about 3–5 minutes. Refrigerate the filling while you prepare the apple mixture.

  2. 2

In a large pan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.

  3. 3

Add the diced apples and cook for about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

Add the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and water. Continue cooking until the apples are soft and a sauce forms. Remove the pan from the heat and transfer the apple filling to a bowl.

  5. 5

In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon for the coating. Set the cinnamon sugar aside.

  6. 6

Place about 1 teaspoon of cream cheese filling and 1 teaspoon of apple pie filling in the center of a wonton wrapper.

  7. 7

Wet all four edges of the wrapper with water and fold it diagonally. Bring in the remaining two sides and seal carefully, ensuring there are no holes where filling could escape. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and fillings.

  8. 8

In a medium pot, heat the oil until it reaches 350°F (180°C).

  9. 9

Fry the wontons in small batches so the pot is not crowded, until golden brown, about 4 minutes per batch.

  10. 10

Remove the fried wontons from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate. Repeat until all the wontons are fried.

  11. 11

Dip the wontons in the cinnamon sugar and serve with caramel sauce, if desired. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

The source does not specify apple varieties or a precise cooking time for the apple filling beyond cooking until soft and saucy. Frying oil quantity is the amount specified; the amount absorbed by the wontons will be less.
