Ingredients
- 20 oz sour cream
- 1 yellow onion (Thinly sliced)
- 1 tbsp butter (For caramelizing the onion)
- 0.5 tsp sugar (For the caramelized onions)
- 0.5 tsp salt (For the caramelized onions)
- 4 slices bacon (Cooked and chopped; reserve some for topping)
- 3 tbsp chives (Chopped, plus more for topping)
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 0.5 tsp garlic powder
- 0.25 tsp paprika
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- salt (To taste; the instructions specify a pinch in the dip)
- chips (For serving)
Steps
- 1
In a pan over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Add the thinly sliced onion, sugar, and the measured salt.
- 2
Cook the onion mixture low and slow for 45–60 minutes, stirring often, until the onions are deeply golden and caramelized. Let the onions cool completely.
- 3
In a bowl, combine the sour cream, cooked and chopped bacon, chopped chives, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and a pinch of salt. Mix until smooth.
- 4
Fold the cooled caramelized onions into the sour cream mixture and mix until fully combined.
- 5
Cover the dip and refrigerate for at least 1 hour so the flavors can develop.
- 6
Top the dip with extra bacon and chives, then serve with chips.
Notes
Adjust the seasonings and add-ins to your liking. The source does not specify the amount of bacon or chives to reserve for topping.
