Korean Seongsimdang French Toast
Thick slices of toast fully absorb an egg mixture made with milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract. After soaking overnight in the refrigerator, they are cooked in an air fryer. The finished toast is crisp on the outside, tender and moist inside, with a pudding-like texture.

Ingredients
- 2 Thick-sliced toast (Fully absorb the egg mixture)
- 2 Eggs
- 2 tbsp Granulated sugar
- 50 ml Milk
- 50 ml Heavy cream
- 10 g Butter (Gently place on the toast the next day)
- 5 滴 Vanilla extract (Use natural vanilla extract; if substituting artificial vanilla flavoring or vanilla oil, reduce the amount to 2 to 3 drops)
Steps
- 1
Place the eggs, granulated sugar, milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Whisk thoroughly until well combined to make the egg mixture.
- 2
Place the thick-sliced toast in the egg mixture and let it fully absorb the mixture. Transfer the toast to an airtight container and soak it in the refrigerator overnight.
- 3
The next day, remove the soaked toast and gently place the butter on top.
- 4
Place the toast in an air fryer and cook at 180°C for about 10 to 12 minutes.
- 5
Remove the toast when the surface is golden brown, let it cool for about 2 minutes, and serve.
Notes
The amount of vanilla extract is important: about 5 drops is ideal; more than 10 drops may produce a bitter taste or a pronounced artificial aroma. If using vanilla flavoring or vanilla oil, which is usually more concentrated, use 2 to 3 drops. The original recipe does not specify whether the air fryer needs to be preheated.
