Ingredients
- 180 g Unsalted butter (softened)
- 60 g Icing sugar
- 1 Egg
- 190 g All-purpose flour
- 30 g Milk powder
- 30 g Cornstarch
- Vanilla extract (to taste)
- Red food coloring (as needed for the Santa hats)
- Royal icing (for decoration)
- Chocolate (melted, for decoration)
Steps
- 1
In a mixing bowl, cream together the 180g of unsalted butter and 60g of icing sugar until smooth and well combined.
- 2
Add one egg and a splash of vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing until fully incorporated.
- 3
Sift in 190g of all-purpose flour, 30g of milk powder, and 30g of cornstarch. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough forms.
- 4
Divide the dough. Take a portion of the dough and mix in red food coloring to create the dough for the Santa hats. Leave the rest plain for the bear bodies.
- 5
Shape the dough into small bears with hats. Use the plain dough for the bear heads and ears, and the red dough for the triangular Santa hats.
- 6
Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).
- 7
Place the cookies on a baking sheet and bake for 15-17 minutes until set and lightly golden.
- 8
Once the cookies have cooled completely, decorate them with royal icing (for the hat trim and pom-pom) and melted chocolate (for the eyes and nose).
Notes
The author recommends serving these cookies with Tchibo coffee. Ensure the butter is at room temperature for easier mixing.
