Ingredients
- 4 slices Tuscan loaf bread (Thick slices)
- 2 tsp Olive oil
- 2 tbsp Pizza sauce
- 4 slices Mozzarella cheese (Thin slices)
- Fresh basil (A few sprigs; leaves torn before serving)
- Salt and pepper (To taste; add a few turns of the grinder)
- Fresh tomato (Sliced)
- Red chili flakes (For garnish)
- Oregano (For garnish)
Steps
- 1
Preheat the oven to the grill/broiler setting at 220°C (425°F). Line a baking tray with baking paper.
- 2
Put the bread slices in a toaster and stop the cycle when they are about 80% toasted; the remaining toasting will happen under the grill.
- 3
Using a pastry or basting brush, lightly brush the olive oil over the top of each partially toasted slice.
- 4
Spoon the pizza sauce over the toast and spread it evenly across the surface.
- 5
Add the sliced tomatoes to each toast.
- 6
Top each toast with the thin slices of mozzarella cheese.
- 7
Place the topped toast on the prepared tray under the grill for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted to your preference. Watch the edges closely because the partially toasted bread can burn quickly.
- 8
Remove the toast from the grill. Season with a few turns of salt and pepper, then finish with torn basil leaves, red chili flakes, and oregano.
Notes
The source has a typographical omission in the instruction describing the initial toasting; it is interpreted as putting the bread slices into a toaster and stopping at approximately 80% toasted. The amount of fresh tomato and garnishes is not specified.
