Ingredients
- 0.5 pack Chow mein noodles (Half pack; package size not specified)
- 0.5 cup Carrots (Sliced)
- 0.5 cup Capsicum (Sliced)
- 0.5 cup Mushrooms (Sliced)
- 0.5 cup Green onions (Sliced; reserve some for topping)
- 4 tbsp Fresh garlic (Minced)
- 3 tbsp Avocado oil (The author used avocado oil)
- 3 tbsp Light soy sauce
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt (To taste; add cautiously because the bouillon and soy sauce are already salty)
- Black pepper (To taste)
- 2 tbsp Chili oil (Alternative: use 1 tbsp red chili flakes instead)
- Red chili flakes (Alternative to chili oil: 1 tbsp)
- 1 Chicken or vegetable bouillon (Use one bouillon cube or equivalent)
- 1 tbsp Brown sugar
- 2 tbsp Honey
- 0.333 cup Reserved noodle cooking water (Save from boiling the noodles)
- 1 tbsp Sesame seeds (For sprinkling on top)
Steps
- 1
Boil the chow mein noodles according to the package instructions. Before draining, reserve 1/3 cup of the noodle cooking water, then drain the noodles and set them aside.
- 2
Heat the oil in a pan.
- 3
Add the minced garlic and sliced green onions to the pan, then sauté them.
- 4
Add the sliced carrots, capsicum, and mushrooms, and sauté all the vegetables with the garlic and green onions.
- 5
In a bowl, mix together the light soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, chili oil or red chili flakes, bouillon, brown sugar, and honey to make the sauce.
- 6
Pour the sauce into the pan with the sautéed vegetables and add the reserved noodle cooking water.
- 7
Let the sauce and vegetables simmer for 1 minute.
- 8
Add the cooked noodles to the pan and mix well so they are coated with the sauce.
- 9
Sprinkle the chow mein with the reserved green onions and sesame seeds, then serve.
Notes
The source does not specify the noodle package size, exact boiling time, or sautéing time. Add salt cautiously because both the soy sauce and bouillon contribute salt. Use either chili oil or red chili flakes, not both.
