Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 10 mini taco shells
  • 10 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup lettuce (chopped)
  • salt (to taste, for the beef and sauce)
  • 1 cup mayonnaise (for the sauce)
  • 4 tbsp ketchup (for the sauce)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (for the sauce)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (for the sauce)
  • 1 tsp vinegar (for the sauce)
  • 3 tbsp sweet relish (for the sauce)
  • 3 tbsp caramelized onions (used in the sauce and as a taco topping)
  • 1 tsp black pepper (for the sauce)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (for the sauce)
  • oil (a small amount, for heating the skillet)

Steps

  1. 1

Combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, caramelized onions, sweet relish, vinegar, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder in a bowl.

  2. 2

Mix the sauce well, then refrigerate it until ready to use.

  3. 3

Heat a skillet over high heat with a small amount of oil.

  4. 4

Place 2–3 tablespoons of ground beef in the center of each mini taco shell, pressing the beef down gently to create an even layer.

  5. 5

    Sprinkle the beef with salt.

  6. 6

Place the tacos meat-side down in the skillet and cook over medium-low heat for 4–5 minutes, or until the beef is cooked through.

  7. 7

Flip the tacos and cook the other side until it is crispy and golden.

  8. 8

Top each taco with one slice of cheddar cheese, chopped lettuce, and caramelized onions.

  9. 9

Drizzle the tacos with the refrigerated In-N-Out sauce and serve.

Notes

The source lists mini taco shells but describes pressing the beef onto each tortilla; this extraction follows the listed mini taco shells. The source does not provide a specific skillet temperature beyond starting over high heat and cooking over medium-low heat, nor does it specify how the caramelized onions are made.
