Ingredients
- 0.5 cup honey
- 1 tbsp red pepper flakes (For less spicy honey, use half the amount.)
- 2 tsp apple cider vinegar (You can also use red wine vinegar.)
Steps
- 1
Add the honey and red pepper flakes to a small saucepan. Heat over medium-high heat.
- 2
When the honey begins to bubble gently, reduce the heat and let it simmer, without allowing it to boil vigorously, for 3 minutes.
- 3
Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the apple cider vinegar, stirring until incorporated.
- 4
For less spicy honey, strain it at this point through a strainer to remove the pepper flakes.
- 5
Pour the honey into a small jar and transfer it to the refrigerator to cool.
Notes
Although the recipe instructs you to cool it in the refrigerator, the site text states that it can be stored in a clean, airtight container in a cool, dark place at room temperature for 1 to 3 months. If it crystallizes, place the jar in warm water and stir until the crystals dissolve. The site also mentions that fresh sliced chiles can be used, removing all or some of the seeds to adjust the heat level.
