Ingredients
- 2 bread (thick-cut slices like brioche or Texas toast)
- 2 tbsp butter (softened)
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 0.5 tsp cinnamon
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp milk
- 0.25 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp cream cheese (softened, for glaze)
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 1 tsp milk or cream (for glaze consistency)
Steps
- 1
In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until a smooth paste forms.
- 2
Spread the cinnamon butter mixture generously over one side of each slice of bread.
- 3
In a shallow dish, whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
- 4
Carefully dip the bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides but being careful not to let the cinnamon butter slide off.
- 5
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the bread in the skillet, cinnamon-butter side down first.
- 6
Cook for 2-3 minutes until the cinnamon sugar has caramelized and formed a crust, then flip and cook the other side until golden brown.
- 7
While the toast cooks, whisk together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and a splash of milk or cream to create a smooth glaze.
- 8
Remove the toast from the pan and drizzle with the cream cheese glaze while warm.
Notes
For best results, use a sturdy bread like brioche that can hold the weight of the cinnamon butter and the custard soak. If the butter mixture is too hard to spread, microwave it for 5 seconds.
