Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup milk
  • 1.5 cup cream
  • 65 g butter
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp coconut extract
  • 0.667 cup caster sugar (Source states 2/3 cup.)
  • 0.333 cup cornflour (Cornstarch; source states 1/3 cup.)
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 2 pieces baked puff pastry (Use one piece for the base and one for the top; the source does not specify the size or amount of pastry in each piece.)
  • icing sugar (For dusting.)

Steps

  1. 1

Combine the milk, cream, butter, vanilla extract, coconut extract, and caster sugar in a saucepan. Heat until nearly boiling.

  2. 2

Remove the saucepan from the heat. Mix the cornflour with the water until combined.

  3. 3

Whisk together the six egg yolks, then pour the egg yolks and the cornflour-water mixture into the saucepan.

  4. 4

Return the saucepan to low heat and whisk continuously until the mixture thickens.

  5. 5

Place one previously baked piece of puff pastry in the bottom of an oven-proof dish.

  6. 6

Pour the thickened custard mixture over the puff pastry.

  7. 7

Top with the second piece of baked puff pastry. Chill for 4 hours.

  8. 8

Cut the chilled slice into squares and dust with icing sugar before serving.

Notes

The source does not specify the puff-pastry dimensions, baking method, custard cooking temperature, dish size, or exact yield. The puff pastry is described as already baked, so its baking instructions are not included.
