Ingredients
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter
- 0.5 cup light brown sugar
- 0.333 cup granulated sugar
- 50 g large egg (Approximately 50 g; at room temperature)
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste (Use either vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.5 tsp baking soda
- salt (Pinch)
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 0.5 cup white chocolate chips
- 1 tsp red gel food coloring (Add more for a deeper red color)
- 0.25 cup natural cocoa powder
Steps
- 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, natural cocoa powder, and salt. Set the dry mixture aside.
- 3
In a large bowl, cream the unsalted butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar with an electric beater until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
- 4
Add the room-temperature egg and vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste to the butter mixture. Beat with the electric beater until well combined, about 2–3 minutes.
- 5
Add the red gel food coloring and mix until the dough is evenly colored.
- 6
Gradually mix the dry ingredient mixture into the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 7
Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and white chocolate chips until they are distributed throughout the dough.
- 8
Scoop the dough into 2-tablespoon-sized balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 5 inches of space between each cookie.
- 9
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are set and the centers are still slightly soft.
- 10
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Natural cocoa powder may give the cookies a slightly different flavor profile. Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. The source says “coca powder” in one instruction; this is interpreted as the listed natural cocoa powder.
