Ingredients
- 1 orange (Large; peel removed with a peeler)
- 1 lemon (Peel removed with a peeler)
- 1 lime (Peel removed with a peeler; juice added over the finished drinks)
- 1 cup brown sugar (Lightly packed)
- 1.25 cup water
- 3 tbsp fresh ginger (Freshly grated; does not need to be peeled)
- 0.5 cinnamon stick (Half a cinnamon stick)
- 0.25 tsp ground coriander
- 0.125 tsp ground nutmeg (One-eighth teaspoon)
- sea salt (Pinch)
- 16 oz sparkling water
- ice (For serving)
Steps
- 1
Use a peeler to remove the peel from the orange, lemon, and lime.
- 2
Add the peeled citrus, brown sugar, water, grated ginger, cinnamon stick, coriander, nutmeg, and sea salt to a small- to medium-sized pot. Do not add the sparkling water yet.
- 3
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
- 4
Reduce the heat to maintain a simmer and cook for 15 minutes.
- 5
Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool for 15 minutes.
- 6
Strain the cooled mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a jar. The finished syrup should yield approximately two-thirds cup and can be used as the drink base.
- 7
For each serving, pour approximately one-quarter to one-third cup of syrup over ice.
- 8
Top with sparkling water and stir to combine.
- 9
Finish with freshly squeezed lime juice on top.
