- 270 g vegan ground meat
- 1 Bund spring onions (finely chopped; plus 1 spring onion for the dip)
- 1 carrot (medium-sized, grated)
- 1.5 tbsp soy sauce (for the filling)
- 1.5 tsp sesame oil (for the filling)
- salt (to taste)
- pepper (to taste)
- 70 ml water (for steaming)
- oil for frying (a little oil for the nonstick pan)
- 1.5 tbsp white sesame seeds (toasted)
- 1 garlic (large clove, finely chopped)
- 1 spring onion (finely chopped, for the dip)
- 1.5 tsp Gochugaru (or regular chili flakes)
- 1.5 tsp brown sugar
- 3 tbsp soy sauce (for the dip)
- 1.5 tbsp rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
- 5 tbsp neutral vegetable oil (suitable for high-heat cooking)
- 1 tsp sesame oil (for the dip)
- 0.5 Bund cilantro (freshly chopped, for garnishing or stirring in)
Steps
- 1
For the dip, place the garlic, chopped spring onion, toasted sesame seeds, Gochugaru or chili flakes, and brown sugar in a small heatproof bowl.
- 2
Heat the neutral vegetable oil in a small saucepan until very hot, then carefully pour it over the ingredients in the bowl.
- 3
Stir in the soy sauce, rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar, sesame oil, and chopped cilantro. Set the dip aside.
- 4
Thoroughly mix the vegan ground meat, chopped spring onions, grated carrot, 1.5 tbsp soy sauce, 1.5 tsp sesame oil, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- 5
Shape the mixture into approximately 12–14 small balls, each about the size of a table tennis ball.
- 6
Heat a little oil in a large nonstick pan over medium heat. Arrange the balls in the pan with some space between them and fry for about 2 minutes, until the bottoms are browned.
- 7
Place one round dumpling wrapper on each ball and gently fold the wrapper around the ball.
- 8
Carefully pour the water into the pan and immediately cover with a lid. Steam the dumplings over medium heat for about 5 minutes, until the wrappers are cooked through.
- 9
Remove the lid and allow the remaining water to evaporate completely. Once the pan is dry, fry the bottoms again until crisp.
- 10
Serve the lazy dumplings with the chili sesame dip.
Notes
The source does not specify an exact amount of oil for frying. According to the source, the balls are shaped to about the size of table tennis balls; therefore, the actual number may vary between 12–14 pieces.
