Steps

Bread Preparation

  1. Cut the crustless bread slices into 3 long, stick-shaped parts.

  2. Add mozzarella cheese as the filling between the bread pieces to form the sticks.

Butter Mixture

  1. In a small bowl, mix the butter (or margarine) with the sugar until well combined.

  2. Spread the butter and sugar mixture on the top side of the bread sticks.

Cooking

  1. Place the bread sticks in a pan over low heat, buttered-side down.

  2. While the first side is frying, spread the butter and sugar mixture on the empty side of the bread.

  3. Once the first side has caramelized to a golden brown, flip the bread sticks to cook and caramelize the other side.

Notes

Always keep the stove at low heat to allow the sugar to melt slowly and caramelize without burning. If the toast becomes tough once cooled, it may have been cooked for too long or at too high a temperature.
