Ingredients

  • 300 g Wheat flour
  • Salt (a pinch)
  • 1 tbsp Sugar for the dough
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 150 g Butter (cold)
  • 60 ml Ice water
  • 300 g Cherries (the source specifies frozen, pitted cherries)
  • 3 tbsp Sugar for the filling
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch
  • Ice cream (for serving, 1 scoop per serving)

Steps

  1. 1

In a deep bowl, combine the cherries, sugar for the filling, and cornstarch. Stir and set aside.

  2. 2

In another bowl, combine the flour, sugar for the dough, salt, and baking powder.

  3. 3

Add the cold butter and rub it into the mixture with your fingers until crumbly.

  4. 4

Pour in the ice water and knead into a dough.

  5. 5

Divide the dough into two portions in a 30/70 ratio.

  6. 6

Roll out the larger portion thinly, place it in a baking pan, and spread the cherry filling over it.

  7. 7

Roll out the smaller portion thinly and cut it into small strips.

  8. 8

Arrange the strips over the cherries to form a lattice top.

  9. 9

Place the pie in an oven preheated to 190 °C and bake for 30–35 minutes.

  10. 10

Serve the pie with a scoop of ice cream.

Notes

The source specifies a baking time of 30 minutes in the general section and 30–35 minutes in the step-by-step instructions; the more detailed range has been used. The pan size is not specified.
