Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp Salted butter
  • 0.5 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 cup Chicken broth
  • 1 cup Warm milk
  • 1 tsp Chicken bouillon
  • 0.333 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.333 tsp Onion powder
  • 0.333 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.333 tsp Salt (Or to taste)
  • 0.333 cup Rotisserie chicken (Optional; finely chopped)

Steps

  1. 1

Melt the salted butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

  2. 2

Whisk in the flour. Let the mixture bubble for about 1 minute to cook out the raw flour taste.

  3. 3

Slowly stream in the chicken broth and warm milk while whisking constantly, keeping the mixture smooth.

  4. 4

Stir in the chicken bouillon, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  5. 5

Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Whisk for 3–4 minutes, until thick and velvety.

  6. 6

If using, fold in the finely chopped rotisserie chicken for a soup with chunks.

  7. 7

Use the finished soup 1:1 anywhere a recipe calls for condensed cream of chicken soup.

Notes

One batch is described as roughly equivalent to two standard cans. The source does not specify whether the yield includes the optional chicken.
