Ingredients
- 1 tsp instant coffee (1 to 2 teaspoons)
- 1 tsp sugar (1 to 2 teaspoons, to taste)
- 30 ml cold water (To make the coffee foam base)
- ice cubes (As needed)
- 120 ml cold water (120 to 150 ml)
- milk (Optional splash, for a smoother variation)
Steps
- 1
Put the instant coffee, sugar, and 30 ml cold water in a shaker, a jar with a lid, or a tall glass.
- 2
Shake or whisk the mixture vigorously for about 15 to 30 seconds, until a thick, light-brown layer of foam forms.
- 3
Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
- 4
Pour the coffee foam into the glass with ice.
- 5
Slowly add 120 to 150 ml cold water. If desired, also add a splash of milk for a smoother variation.
- 6
Stir the frappé briefly before drinking, or leave the layers beautifully visible.
Notes
Use instant coffee; regular filter coffee or espresso will not produce the same foam. A shaker, jar with a lid, or milk frother can be used. Sugar helps stabilize the foam. The frappé can be prepared without sugar, with a little sugar, or extra sweet.
