Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Tylose
- 0.5 cup Boiling water (+ 1 tablespoon)
- 1 tbsp Icing sugar
- 2 tbsp Cornstarch (Level tablespoons)
- 0.25 tsp Meringue powder
- 0.5 tsp White corn syrup
- 4.5 drops Americolor White gel paste coloring (Use 4–5 drops, or another gel paste coloring.)
Steps
- 1
Combine the Tylose, boiling water, icing sugar, cornstarch, meringue powder, white corn syrup, and gel paste coloring. Mix thoroughly until the mixture becomes a smooth, spreadable paste.
- 2
Let the paste rest so air bubbles can rise to the surface—at least 1 hour, although resting overnight is preferred. If lumps appear, let the mixture stand on the counter for 15 minutes so it can absorb more liquid, then continue mixing with a spatula if necessary.
- 3
Using a plastic bench scraper, spread the paste over a lace mold and scrape away the excess.
- 4
Let the first layer dry for a few hours at room temperature, or dry it in an oven for 20 minutes at 200°; the source does not specify the temperature scale.
- 5
Remove the mold from the drying setup and spread the mixture over the mold again to create a second layer and strengthen the lace.
- 6
Let the second layer dry for at least 4 hours at room temperature, or approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour in the oven. Drying times depend on the oven. The lace is ready when it has dried and begins to separate from the lace mat.
- 7
Slowly peel the lace away from the mat. Place it on a cake board and cover it with cling film, or store it in a ziplock bag until ready to use.
- 8
Keep the lace pliable and move it into the desired position for decorating. Use it within 3 days if not refrigerated, or within 1 week if refrigerated.
Notes
The source gives the oven temperature as “200*” without specifying Fahrenheit or Celsius. The recipe does not state the size or yield of the lace mold. Store covered; refrigeration extends the stated usable period from 3 days to 1 week.
