Ingredients
- 3 tbsp Oatmeal (Soak in the hot water until softened.)
- 120 ml Hot water (For soaking the oatmeal.)
- 400 g Medium-firm tofu
- 1.5 tbsp Chickpea flour (Mix with the black salt and softened oatmeal to an egg-like consistency.)
- 0.333 tsp Black salt (The source displays approximately ⅓ teaspoon.)
- Cornstarch (Used for coating the tofu; the source does not show a quantity.)
- 1.5 tbsp Cooking oil (The source gives a range of 1–2 tablespoons; 1.5 tablespoons represents the midpoint.)
- 1 tbsp Minced garlic (For the optional sauce.)
- 0.5 tbsp Mushroom stir-fry sauce (The Chinese text identifies this as vegetarian oyster sauce; for the sauce variation.)
- 0.5 tbsp Sugar (For the optional sauce.)
- 1 tbsp Soy sauce (For the optional sauce.)
- 90 ml Water (For the optional sauce.)
- 1 tsp Potato starch (For the optional sauce.)
Steps
- 1
Soak the oatmeal in 120 ml hot water until it has softened.
- 2
Combine the softened oatmeal with the chickpea flour and black salt. Stir until the mixture reaches a consistency similar to beaten egg.
- 3
Coat the medium-firm tofu with cornstarch, then coat it with the softened oatmeal mixture.
- 4
Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the coated tofu and fry for about 4–5 minutes.
- 5
Once the bottom has set, turn the tofu over.
- 6
Fry the second side for about 4–5 minutes, until the surface is golden and crispy.
- 7
Serve the tofu as crispy oatmeal-coated tofu, or use the optional sauce ingredients to prepare a sauce and coat the fried tofu with it. The source shows the sauce ingredients but does not provide the sauce-cooking steps.
Notes
The source presents two serving options: plain crispy tofu, or crispy tofu coated in sauce. The sauce ingredients are visible, but the sampled frames do not show enough preparation detail to specify how the sauce is cooked. The quantity of cornstarch is also not visible.
