Ingredients

  • 2 shallots (Thinly sliced)
  • 5 garlic cloves (Minced; use fresh garlic)
  • 2 tbsp chili crisp (Additional chili crisp may be added for serving)
  • 1 cup cream (Or coconut milk; bring to room temperature)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (Optional)
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese (Fresh and grated; reserve a little for serving if desired)
  • 8 oz pasta (Pasta of your choice)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika (Part of the seasonings; the source specifies 1 tsp of each seasoning)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (Part of the seasonings; the source specifies 1 tsp of each seasoning)
  • 1 tsp salt (Part of the seasonings; also use salt for the pasta water as stated)
  • 1 tsp black pepper (Part of the seasonings)
  • 1 tsp oregano (Part of the seasonings)
  • parsley (Optional, for serving)

Steps

  1. 1

Thinly slice the shallots and measure out the paprika, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and oregano. Bring the cream or coconut milk to room temperature so it blends smoothly into the sauce.

  2. 2

Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  3. 3

Add the sliced shallots and sauté for 8–10 minutes, until softened and beginning to turn golden.

  4. 4

While the shallots cook, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

  5. 5

Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook until al dente according to the pasta package directions.

  6. 6

Drain the pasta, reserving some of the pasta water before discarding the rest.

  7. 7

When the shallots are soft and sweet, add the minced garlic and all five seasonings to the skillet. Stir and let the seasonings bloom for about 1 minute.

  8. 8

Add the chili crisp and sauté briefly to combine it with the shallot and garlic mixture.

  9. 9

Pour in the room-temperature cream or coconut milk. Add the soy sauce if using, then let the mixture simmer for a few minutes until it thickens.

  10. 10

Add the grated Parmesan and stir until incorporated into the sauce.

  11. 11

Add the drained pasta to the skillet and toss until fully coated. Add splashes of reserved pasta water as needed to achieve a silky consistency.

  12. 12

Serve hot with an extra spoonful of chili crisp and a sprinkle of Parmesan and optional parsley.

Notes

The source does not specify the exact simmering time, amount of reserved pasta water, or quantity of garnishes. Chicken, shrimp, or tofu are suggested as optional additions.
