Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Dark soy sauce (For the sauce)
  • 4 tbsp Black Chinese vinegar (For the sauce)
  • 2 tbsp Sweet chilli sauce (For the sauce)
  • 3 tbsp Ketchup (For the sauce)
  • 2.5 tbsp Honey (Source states 2–3 tbsp)
  • 300 g Chicken breast (Slice into strips roughly 1/2 cm thick)
  • 2 tsp Sesame oil (For coating the chicken)
  • 1.5 tbsp Light soy sauce (For coating the chicken)
  • 1 Egg (Medium egg, beaten; the source specifies British Lion)
  • 200 g Cornflour (Coat the chicken completely)
  • Salt (Season to taste)
  • Black pepper (Season to taste)
  • Vegetable oil spray (For spraying the air fryer and chicken)
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil (For frying the vegetables)
  • 1 Onion (Medium onion, sliced)
  • 1 Pepper (Sliced; source does not specify color or size)
  • 0.75 tbsp Fresh ginger (Grated)
  • 2 Garlic (Large cloves, crushed)
  • 1 Fresh chilli (Finely sliced; size not specified)
  • Fresh coriander (1 handful, finely sliced)
  • Sesame seeds (For finishing)

Steps

  1. 1

In a bowl, combine the dark soy sauce, black Chinese vinegar, sweet chilli sauce, ketchup, and honey to make the sauce. Mix thoroughly and set aside.

  2. 2

Slice the chicken breast into thin strips, roughly 1/2 cm thick.

  3. 3

Place the chicken strips in a bowl. Add the light soy sauce, sesame oil, and beaten egg, then mix until the chicken is evenly coated.

  4. 4

Add the cornflour, season with salt and pepper, and combine until every strip is fully coated. The coated strips should separate nicely rather than sticking together in clumps.

  5. 5

Spray the air-fryer basket or tray with vegetable oil and heat the air fryer to 190°C.

  6. 6

Arrange the coated chicken in a single layer in the air fryer. Work in batches if necessary so the pieces are not crowded.

  7. 7

Spray the chicken with more vegetable oil and cook at 190°C for 10 minutes, turning halfway through. Spray with a little more oil if desired, and continue until the chicken is crisp.

  8. 8

Meanwhile, heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and pepper and fry for 2–3 minutes, until they have developed some color.

  9. 9

Lower the heat. Add the crushed garlic, grated ginger, and sliced chilli, then fry for another minute.

  10. 10

Remove the pan from the heat. Pour in the prepared sauce and add the crispy chicken. Add the sliced coriander and combine everything thoroughly.

  11. 11

Finish with sesame seeds and serve.

Notes

The source does not specify the quantity of salt, pepper, oil spray, coriander, or sesame seeds. Air-fryer capacity may require cooking the chicken in batches.
