Ingredients

  • 1 cup precooked cornmeal (P.A.N. cornmeal type)
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 cup water
  • salt (a pinch)

Steps

  1. 1

In a large bowl, combine one cup of precooked cornmeal, one cup of cottage cheese, and one cup of water.

  2. 2

Add a pinch of salt to the mixture.

  3. 3

Mix and knead all ingredients well until you obtain a dough with a homogeneous texture that is not sticky.

  4. 4

Form the dough into small balls of approximately 100 g each and flatten them gently to give them the traditional arepa shape.

  5. 5

Heat a skillet or griddle (budare) and sear the arepas on both sides until they are lightly golden.

  6. 6

Transfer the arepas to the oven to finish cooking until they are thoroughly cooked and browned to your liking.

Notes

The author suggests preparing a large batch and freezing them to have breakfasts ready. They can be reheated directly from the freezer.
