Ingredients

  • 45 g fresh turmeric (roughly chopped, no need to peel)
  • 5 tbsp fresh ginger (roughly chopped, no need to peel)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 tsp ground fenugreek
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp pink pepper
  • nutmeg (1 pinch)
  • 1 cardamom
  • 500 ml water

Steps

  1. 1

Roughly chop the fresh turmeric and ginger; there is no need to peel them before chopping.

  2. 2

In a small saucepan, combine the chopped turmeric, ginger, cinnamon stick, star anise, ground fenugreek, ground cinnamon, pink pepper, nutmeg, and cardamom.

  3. 3

Add 500 mL of water to the saucepan.

  4. 4

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to medium heat. Let it cook until almost all of the water has evaporated.

  5. 5

Remove the cinnamon stick and the star anise from the pan.

  6. 6

Transfer the remaining ingredients to a blender and blend until a smooth paste is achieved.

  7. 7

Pour the paste into a glass jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 20 days.

  8. 8

To serve, heat and froth 300 mL of oat milk with 1 teaspoon of the golden milk paste. Add maple syrup or sugar to taste.

Notes

This paste is highly effective against winter colds and throat inflammation. The pink pepper, turmeric, and ginger are the essential base ingredients, while the other spices add a complex, gourmet flavor profile.
