  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce (For the sauce)
  • 2 tbsp dark soy sauce (For the sauce)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

  • 1 chicken bouillon cube (Crushed)
  • salt (To taste, for the sauce)
  • 1 tsp black pepper (For the sauce)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder (For the sauce)

  • 2 tbsp sesame seed oil (For finishing)
  • 1 cup green onion (Sliced, for garnish)
  • white sesame seeds (For garnish)

Steps

  1. 1

In a medium bowl, whisk together the corn flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, black pepper, and red chili flakes listed for the chicken.

  2. 2

Add the thinly sliced chicken to the seasoning mixture, mix well, and leave it for 30 minutes. The source lists soy sauce with the chicken ingredients but does not specify when to add it.

  3. 3

Heat oil in a wok over medium-high heat.

  4. 4

Add the chicken to the wok and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5–6 minutes. Cook in batches so the wok is not overcrowded.

  5. 5

Remove the cooked chicken from the wok and set it aside.

  6. 6

In the same wok, add more oil if necessary. Add the chopped garlic and sambal oelek or chili sauce, then sauté for 1 minute.

  7. 7

Add the diced green onions, sliced mixed bell peppers, fresh garlic, mushrooms, red onion, and carrots. Stir-fry until the vegetables are tender-crisp.

  8. 8

Add the sliced cabbage and mix it into the vegetables. Cook for 1 minute.

  9. 9

Season the vegetables with salt and black pepper to taste.

  10. 10

In a bowl, whisk together the light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, rice vinegar, sweet and sour sauce, oyster sauce, and crushed chicken bouillon cube.

  11. 11

Add the brown sugar, garlic powder, and black pepper to the sauce mixture, whisk well, and set the sauce aside.

  12. 12

Cook the egg noodles according to the package instructions.

  13. 13

Add the cooked noodles to the wok with the stir-fried vegetables.

  14. 14

Pour the prepared sauce over the noodles and vegetables.

  15. 15

Add the cooked chicken back to the wok and stir-fry everything together.

  16. 16

    Season with salt to taste.

  17. 17

Drizzle the sesame seed oil over the chow mein.

  18. 18

Garnish with sliced green onion and white sesame seeds, then serve.

Notes

The source does not state how much cooking oil to use, and it lists soy sauce with the chicken ingredients without specifying its point of use. The sauce quantity for sweet and sour sauce is 2–3 tbsp. Cook noodles according to their package instructions.
