Ingredients

  • 1 lb Peeled and cleaned shrimp
  • 0.5 cup Mayonnaise
  • 3 tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Lime juice
  • 1 tbsp Orange juice
  • 2 tbsp Finely chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp Finely chopped red bell pepper
  • 1 tbsp Chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt (To taste; a little is also used to boil the water.)
  • Pepper (To taste.)
  • 1 Diced avocado
  • Lettuce (For serving.)
  • Water (As needed to boil the shrimp.)
  • Ice (For chilling the shrimp immediately after cooking.)

Steps

  1. 1

Bring water with a little salt to a boil in a pot.

  2. 2

Add the shrimp and cook for approximately 2 to 3 minutes, until pink and cooked through.

  3. 3

Remove the shrimp from the water and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice to stop the cooking.

  4. 4

    Drain the chilled shrimp well.

  5. 5

In a bowl, mix the mayonnaise, ketchup, lime juice, orange juice, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce.

  6. 6

Add the onion, red bell pepper, and cilantro. Mix well.

  7. 7

Add the shrimp and gently mix until they are well coated with the sauce.

  8. 8

Refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

  9. 9

Just before serving, carefully fold in the diced avocado.

  10. 10

Serve the cocktail over a bed of lettuce. If desired, garnish with a whole shrimp, cilantro, and a small lime slice.

  11. 11

For extra Cuban flavor, you can add a few additional drops of lime and orange juice when serving.

Notes

The recipe mentions a whole shrimp, cilantro, and a small lime slice as optional garnishes but does not provide specific quantities. The total time includes the 30 minutes of refrigeration.
