Ingredients
- 5 medium potatoes (peeled and cubed)
- 2 slices white bread (crusts removed, soaked in water and squeezed dry)
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp aromatic seasoning (such as Vegeta or an herb blend)
- 0.5 tsp chili flakes
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- vegetable oil (for frying)
Steps
- 1
Peel the 5 medium potatoes and cut them into small, even cubes.
- 2
Place the potato cubes in a pot of water and boil until they are soft and fork-tender.
- 3
Drain the potatoes and place them in a large mixing bowl. Mash them thoroughly until smooth.
- 4
Take the 2 slices of bread and remove the crusts. Soak the bread briefly in water, then squeeze it tightly to remove as much moisture as possible.
- 5
Add the squeezed bread to the mashed potatoes.
- 6
Add the salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, aromatic seasoning, chili flakes, and cornstarch to the bowl.
- 7
Mix all ingredients together until a uniform dough-like consistency forms.
- 8
Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into small nuggets or cylinders.
- 9
Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
- 10
Fry the nuggets in batches until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides.
- 11
Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels before serving.
Notes
The soaked bread acts as a binder that keeps the inside of the nugget fluffy while the cornstarch ensures a crispy exterior. If the mixture is too sticky to handle, lightly grease your hands with oil before shaping.
