Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Honey (or to taste)
  • Ground Cinnamon (a small pinch, plus more for garnish)
  • 2 oz Espresso (double shot)
  • 2 oz Whole Milk (steamed)

Steps

  1. 1

Add a small amount of honey (approximately 1 teaspoon) and a small pinch of ground cinnamon to the bottom of a small glass.

  2. 2

Pull a double shot of espresso directly over the honey and cinnamon. The heat from the espresso will melt the honey and help the cinnamon flavor bloom and integrate.

  3. 3

Give the espresso, honey, and cinnamon mixture a quick stir to ensure the flavors are fully blended and not sitting at the bottom.

  4. 4

Steam approximately 2 to 3 ounces of milk until it is hot and has a light micro-foam, similar to the texture used for a latte but with less volume.

  5. 5

Pour the steamed milk over the espresso mixture. A cortado typically uses a 1:1 ratio of espresso to milk.

  6. 6

Finish the drink by dusting a little extra cinnamon on top for garnish.

Notes

A traditional cortado is roughly equal parts espresso and steamed milk (about 2 oz each). This drink is meant to be stronger than a latte, allowing the espresso to remain the primary flavor profile.
