Ingredients
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter (browned and slightly cooled)
- 0.333 cup granulated sugar
- 0.5 cup packed brown sugar (packed)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 0.5 tsp baking soda
- 0.25 tsp salt
- 186 g all-purpose flour
- 255 g chocolate chips
- 0.5 cup Nutella (about 1/2–3/4 cup; some is layered inside and some is dolloped on top for swirling)
- chocolate chunks (optional, for sprinkling on top while the bars are warm)
Steps
- 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- 2
In a large bowl, whisk the browned, slightly cooled butter with the granulated sugar and packed brown sugar until smooth.
- 3
Add the egg and vanilla extract, then mix until fully combined.
- 4
Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined, leaving a few streaks of flour.
- 5
Fold in the chocolate chips until distributed throughout the dough.
- 6
Spread half of the cookie dough evenly into the prepared pan.
- 7
Spread a layer of Nutella over the dough.
- 8
Add the remaining dough and gently spread it over the Nutella layer to cover it.
- 9
Dollop a little more Nutella over the surface. Use a knife or toothpick to create swirls through the top.
- 10
Bake for 25–28 minutes, until the bars are golden brown and set in the center.
- 11
While the bars are still warm, sprinkle additional chocolate chunks over the top if desired.
- 12
Let the bars cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
The source gives two possible pan sizes, 8×8 inches or 9×9 inches. Nutella is listed as approximately 1/2–3/4 cup, without a gram measurement. The source does not specify the number or size of slices.
