Ingredients

  • 1 lb Chicken Wings (split into flats and drumettes)
  • 1 tbsp Oil (vegetable or canola oil)
  • Black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 tsp Aromat (seasoning salt)
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Baking powder (helps with crispiness)
  • 1 tbsp Seven colours grill seasoning
  • 0.5 tsp Chilli flakes (adjust to heat preference)
  • 0.25 cup Plain crumbs (bread crumbs)
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tbsp Crushed garlic
  • 1 tbsp Vinegar (white or apple cider vinegar)
  • 0.25 cup Tomato sauce (ketchup or plain tomato sauce)
  • 2 tbsp Chilli sauce (hot sauce of choice)
  • 1 tbsp Chopped parsley (fresh)

Steps

  1. 1

Place the chicken wings in a large bowl and season with oil, black pepper, aromat, garlic powder, baking powder, seven colours grill seasoning, chilli flakes, and plain crumbs.

  2. 2

Combine well to ensure the wings are evenly coated with the seasoning and crumbs.

  3. 3

Place the seasoned wings in an air fryer basket in a single layer.

  4. 4

Cook in the air fryer (typically at 400°F/200°C) until they turn golden and crispy, usually about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.

  5. 5

While the wings are cooking, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

  6. 6

Add crushed garlic to the melted butter and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  7. 7

Add vinegar, tomato sauce, chilli sauce, and chopped parsley to the saucepan.

  8. 8

Mix until all sauce ingredients are well combined and slightly thickened.

  9. 9

Add the cooked, crispy wings to the sauce in the pan.

  10. 10

Toss until the wings are thoroughly and evenly coated in the spicy sauce.

Notes

Seven Colours Grill Seasoning is a popular South African spice blend; if unavailable, a mix of paprika, salt, onion powder, and dried herbs can be used as a substitute.
