Ingredients
- 250 ml Lukewarm milk
- 15 g Honey
- 7 g Instant yeast
- 1 Large egg (For the dough)
- 45 g Unsalted butter (Room temperature; equivalent to 1/2 stick)
- 500 g All-purpose flour
- 8 g Fine salt (For the dough)
- 25 ml Olive oil (For cooking the filling)
- 600 g Ground beef
- 4 g Fine salt (For the filling)
- 3 g Paprika
- 2 g Garlic powder
- 3 g Onion powder
- 3 g Cayenne pepper
- 1.5 g Black pepper
- 100 g Ketchup
- Cheese slices (American or cheddar; one slice per bun, with extra cheese optional)
- Big Mac-style burger sauce (A spoonful for each bun)
- 1 Egg (Beaten, for brushing the buns)
- Sesame seeds (For sprinkling)
Steps
- 1
Prepare all the ingredients. In a large bowl, combine the lukewarm milk, honey, and instant yeast. Stir well and let the mixture rest for 5 minutes.
- 2
Add the dough egg and room-temperature butter to the milk mixture, then mix well.
- 3
Add the all-purpose flour and the dough salt. Knead for 10–12 minutes, until the dough is smooth.
- 4
Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 5
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- 6
Add the ground beef, filling salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and black pepper to the skillet.
- 7
Cook for 7–8 minutes, until the beef is browned and cooked through.
- 8
Add the ketchup and stir it into the beef until well combined. Let the filling cool completely before adding it to the dough.
- 9
Deflate the risen dough and divide it into 9 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.
- 10
Roll each dough ball into a round sheet.
- 11
Place a slice of cheese in the center of each dough disc. Add some of the cooled beef filling and a spoonful of burger sauce to each disc. Add extra cheese if desired.
- 12
Fold the dough inward around the filling and pinch it tightly closed.
- 13
Place the buns seam side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 14
Brush the buns with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- 15
Let the assembled buns rise for 30 minutes.
- 16
Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for 12–18 minutes, or until golden brown.
