Ingredients

  • 2 small oranges (Juiced or blended whole after removing any seeds; approximately 200 g edible fruit)
  • 2 lemons (Juice only; use the juice of both lemons)
  • 2 oz water
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 oz fresh turmeric (Washed; peeling is optional. If fresh turmeric is unavailable, use 2 tbsp dried turmeric instead.)
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper (Use approximately 1/4 teaspoon with the dried turmeric variation; the transcript's measurement is slightly unclear.)
  • 8 oz fresh ginger (Washed; peeling is optional)

Steps

  1. 1

Gather a blender or food processor. For a batch larger than approximately seven shots, use a full-size blender or another larger container.

  2. 2

Add the oranges, lemon juice, water, honey, fresh turmeric, black pepper, and fresh ginger to the blender or food processor. The turmeric and ginger may be lightly peeled or left unpeeled after washing.

  3. 3

Blend or process until the mixture is as smooth as possible. It will be quite thick, particularly when the turmeric and ginger are left unpeeled.

  4. 4

Place a reusable strainer bag inside a large bowl, measuring cup, or other container. Pour the entire blended mixture into the bag.

  5. 5

Gather the top of the strainer bag and squeeze firmly until no more liquid can be extracted. The remaining pulp will be very dry and fibrous. A strainer basket or French press may be used instead, but straining will take considerably longer.

  6. 6

Discard the strained pulp and rinse the strainer bag promptly. Turmeric will likely stain the bag, so dedicate one bag to making these shots.

  7. 7

Evenly distribute the strained juice among small shot glasses or bottles. This batch makes approximately seven small shots, depending on serving size.

  8. 8

Refrigerate the shots or freeze them for longer storage. Keep approximately three to four days' worth in the refrigerator and freeze the remainder.

  9. 9

If the flavor is too strong, dilute an individual serving with additional water before drinking.

Notes

Peeling the ginger and turmeric is completely optional, but unpeeled roots may produce a thicker mixture and require thorough washing. The creator recommends refrigerating only three to four days' worth and freezing the rest. Frozen portions should be thawed in the refrigerator before drinking. The recipe may also be made with 2 tbsp dried turmeric when fresh turmeric is unavailable.
