Ingredients
- 10 g Black pepper (whole peppercorns)
- 200 ml Water (for distillation)
Steps
- 1
Prepare the distillation equipment (stiller). Place 10g of black peppercorns into the distillation chamber.
- 2
Add 200ml of water to the boiling flask of the still.
- 3
Heat the water to generate steam. The steam will pass through the black pepper, extracting the aromatic essential oils.
- 4
Condense the steam back into a liquid state using the cooling element of the still.
- 5
Collect the resulting distilled water (hydrosol). The final product should have a strong peppery scent but a mild, non-pungent taste.
Notes
The creator notes that while the aroma is strong enough to make one cough, the actual taste is mild and the 'sharp corners' of the spice's heat are removed during the distillation process. This is often used as a base for sophisticated mocktails.
