Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup sugar
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.125 tsp nutmeg (Scant measure.)
  • 0.125 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup almond milk (Or milk of your choice.)
  • 0.5 tsp apple cider vinegar (Lemon juice can be used instead if needed.)
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract (For the donut batter.)
  • 1 prepared egg replacer (Prepared according to package instructions; equivalent to 1 egg.)
  • 0.25 cup vegan butter (Melted; for the donut batter.)
  • 1 tbsp vegan butter (Melted; for the frosting.)
  • 1 cup icing sugar (For the frosting.)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (For the frosting.)
  • 2 tbsp milk (For the frosting; add just enough to achieve the desired thickness.)
  • sprinkles (Of your choice, for decoration.)

Steps

  1. 1

    Preheat the oven to 350°F.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon until thoroughly combined.

  3. 3

In a separate smaller bowl, whisk together the almond milk, apple cider vinegar, vanilla extract, prepared egg replacer, and melted vegan butter until smooth.

  4. 4

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until a smooth, slightly soft batter forms. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

Transfer the batter to a piping bag and pipe it into the donut molds, filling each mold no more than two-thirds full.

  6. 6

Bake full-sized donuts at 350°F for 10–12 minutes. For mini donuts, bake for 6–8 minutes.

  7. 7

Allow the donuts to cool slightly before removing them from the pan and transferring them to a cooling rack. Let them cool completely before frosting.

  8. 8

To make the frosting, combine the melted vegan butter, icing sugar, and vanilla extract in a shallow bowl. Add the milk gradually, using just enough to reach the desired frosting thickness.

  9. 9

Dunk the top side of each cooled donut into the frosting, then place it on a cooling rack so excess frosting can drip off.

  10. 10

Decorate the frosted donuts with sprinkles.

Notes

The source also notes that the donuts may be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 2–3 days. Unfrosted donuts can be frozen for up to 1 month, then thawed and glazed. For a thinner frosting, add milk gradually; for a thicker frosting, add more icing sugar. The stated yield is 10–12 full-sized donuts or 20–30 mini donuts.
